Sterilization allows your pet to have a more stable and healthy life:
Sterilization is a surgical procedure that consists of removing the reproductive organs of your pet (ovaries and uterus in females and testes in males). It's always performed under general anesthesia and requires a simple care after the surgery.
The type of anesthesia is chosen by the veterinary and varies according to each animal. So a pre-surgical consultation is always required. Although it can be performed at any stage of life, it's recommended to do the surgery before the first heat in females and around 6 months of age in males.
Benefits for your pet:
• Permanent fertility and drug free control. The contraception with drugs represents an increased health risk of your pet and should be avoided.
• Prevention of major diseases of the reproductive system:
- In females, prevention of mammary tumors (especially when the sterilization is performed before the first heat), uterine infections and ovarian cysts, among others.
- In males, preventing testicular tumors, benign prostatic hyperplasia, perianal gland tumors, among others.
• Decreased tendency to leave/run away from home, reducing the risk of fights with other animals, pedestrians or poisonings. As well as decreasing the risk of being contaminated by infectious diseases (such as feline aids in cats).
Other benefits
Suppression of sexual behavior, reducing undesirable behaviors such as urine marking, aggression between males or females heat.
