Cats and the Carriers

Bring your Cat to the clinic with minimum stress:

Once a year every cat should pay a visit to its veterinarian. Although for the majority of cats this experience is very stressful we give you some tricks that can make a big difference.

Use a good carrier:

Never travel with your cat loose in the car, use a strong carrier
The carrier must be easy to clean (preferably plastic)
Avoid to big boxes
Carriers that have an opening above, are easier to use for they allow removing and gently place your pet
Cover the box with a towel or cloth on the trip to keep the cat calmer
In the car, hold the carrier with a seat belt for it doesn’t move
Ensure that the carrier is not inclined
Drive slowly , avoiding sudden movements
Stay calm , talk calmly , avoid speaking loudly or shouting
Ideally, the carrier should be part of the furniture, and it can become the venue for sleep or eat. If this it’s not possible at least enter the carrier one week before the visit. Never do it the same day
Place inside smells that are familiar: the blanket where the cat usually sleeps,  a piece of your clothe, etc…
If he/she still refuses to go, wrap him/her in a towel quietly with a familiar smell. Then put gently and quickly the cat with the towel inside the carrier

In the waiting room:

Always make you appointment to avoid long waiting times
Choose a quiet place, put the carrier in a high place and keep covered with a towel in order to avoid eye contact with others
If your cat is very stressed it’s best to wait inside the car till is time to he/she consultion
