Travel by car in Portugal
First, make sure of the behavior of your pet on a road trip. Some animals sicken, others are so stressed/excited to keep quiet and vocalize a lot. In this case, ask your veterinarian about the need to administer a pill for the prevention of motion sickness or a smoothing pill before the trip.

On the trip don’t take much food to your pet. Put him safely inside the car, ideally a carrier box secured with a seat belt. Stop two hours and give him water. Larger dogs must go for a walk. In this case, always use a leash, more stressed animals may have unpredictable behavior.
In summer, avoid traveling in peak hours.
International travel by car
Each country has specific requirements. You must meet the requirements of all countries to where you’re going to travel. Talk to your veterinarian about two months in advance.
Since these requirements may change, always ask for updated information. What was a requirement in the previous year may not be enough next year.
If you think to stay overnight on the way, confirm in advance if they allow pets.
International air travel
In addition to the requirements of the destination country you should observe the requirements of the airline. The best way is to contact the company and ask for detailed information.
